Sergeant Minnick - Serving with dedication, driven by connection.
Sergeant Minnick brings leadership, experience, and heart to the Holbrook Police Department. Before joining the department, he served as a Sergeant with the Arizona Department of Corrections, where he gained valuable experience in law enforcement and team leadership. Seeking a new challenge and a more community-focused role, he transitioned into policing — a move that has allowed him to make a direct and positive impact on the lives of others.
Originally from Southern California, Sergeant Minnick grew up in both Orange County and the High Desert. He pursued his academic path at Victor Valley Community College and Rio Salado College, majoring in Criminal Justice. His educational trajectory, combined with extensive real-world experience, reflects his growth and leadership in the field, earning him the respect and trust of his colleagues.
When asked what keeps him motivated, Sergeant Minnick credits the people and passions in his life: “Friends, dogs, and hobbies,” he shares — a simple but powerful reminder that the best officers are grounded in strong relationships and a healthy life balance. He draws daily inspiration from his colleagues and friends, always striving to lead by example.
Outside the uniform, Sergeant Minnick is an avid golfer and lifelong hockey fan. In fact, he played ice and roller hockey for over six years during his late teens and throughout his mid-twenties. His perfect day off includes golfing, grilling, enjoying an adult beverage, and watching a UFC fight or hockey game. He also has a bucket list filled with adventures — like watching a hockey game in Canada, attending the Masters Tournament, and trying sushi in Tokyo. When it comes to guilty pleasures, he admits — with a laugh — to binge-watching good TV shows.
Sergeant Minnick is known for his keen sense of individuality — expressed in part through a collection of meaningful tattoos — and his deep appreciation for authenticity and human connection. He believes in the quiet power of shared stories and the simple joys of everyday life. While he may project a tough exterior, those who know him well see a deeply sensitive and reflective side. When asked who he would choose to speak with, living or passed, he answers without pause: “I’d ask my dad about my mom and what it’s like in Heaven.”
Whether serving the community, mentoring younger officers, or simply walking the beat with professionalism and pride, Sergeant Minnick brings compassion, dedication, and a unique perspective to the Holbrook Police Department.
We could have asked Sergeant Minnick about his heroic accomplishments and daily acts of valor… but where’s the fun in that? Instead, we hit him with some low-stakes, zero-pressure questions to uncover the real mystery: who is he when he’s not out there saving the world one crisis at a time?
1. What is a completely random skill you wish you were instantly amazing at?
Sign language. That way, when society inevitably collapses and we’re all living in silence to avoid attracting zombies, I’ll still be able to argue and communicate — without making a sound. Peak survival skill!
2. What is one totally useless thing you own but refuse to throw away?
Cell phone boxes… because WHY?? They never go back in there, but somehow, I keep hoarding them.
3. What is the weirdest thing you believed as a kid that you are still a little embarrassed about?
That turning on the dome light in the car at night was straight-up illegal.
4. If you were a flavor of ice cream, what would you be — and why?
I’d be mint chocolate chip — cool, sharp, and slightly bitter. Loved by some, hated by others, and honestly fine either way.
5. What is your zombie apocalypse survival strategy — or are you just giving up and becoming one immediately?
I’d grab the essentials — the dogs, the razor, and whatever supplies I can carry — then link up with my most trusted friends. Together, we’d secure a fortified location and hunker down, ready to ride it out until the undead come knocking.
6. If food did not affect your health, what is the one thing you’d eat every single day – no shame?
Chipotle, no question. I’d have a burrito bowl IV drip set up just to keep the fiesta going 24/7.
7. If you had to wear one Halloween costume every day for a year, what would you pick?
The Reaper — because nothing says ‘I’m here to collect your soul’ like showing up to work in a black cloak and scythe every single day. Plus, the ‘leave me alone’ vibe is unbeatable.
